Emotional Tapping on the Beach

Tapping Away Overwhelm

Eventually I’ll get to the emotional tapping part of this story. I promise.

If you’re new to EFT, this short and powerful EFT tapping video is an excellent place to start.

EFT stands for Emotional Freedom Techniques.  The EFT Manual (free download) will give you the most thorough overview.

I finally sold my house in Milagro Cohousing – to a wonderful family with two little kids – my dream. Yea!

And I’ve left Arizona, after spending two weeks helping my sister in Scottsdale. It was a sad departure.

I’m now house-sitting for my niece in San Clemente while she and her family are in Hawaii for a couple of weeks.

After that, another short house-sitting stint in Santa Monica, then off to the Philippines…

…when I get a ticket.

My ability to get to the Philippines is feeling bogged down. When that happens, I look inside for my resistance.  We’ll look at that soon, after the back-story.

Flying with Frequent Flyer Miles

I transferred 50,000 miles from my Chase Rewards account to British Airways, so I could fly on Cathay Pacific, known as one of a handful of excellent airlines in the world.

Cathay is known for wonderful long trips in Business Class.

So I hear…

…their private chairs lay flat and the flight attendants make your bed for you.

They serve gourmet meals – dinner and breakfast.

And they offer wine and various cocktails (I’m not much of a drinker, so that’s not a big plus for me.) and you have your own little theater with multiple movies to choose from.

I figured that since the flight from LAX to Hong Kong is 14 hours, and since the same one-way ticket is $3600, using points for this flight is a super good deal.

But, the miles haven’t transferred yet, so I can’t buy the ticket.  (I learned how to do this creative “travel hacking,” by the way, from Chris Guillebeau, in his Travel Ninja and

Frequent Flyer Master books – highly recommended.  My affiliate link will take you to a page with both products:   Unconventional Guides Product Page

So, that’s where the Emotional Tapping came in.

beach view from the roof in San Clemente, CAMy niece is about a 10 minute walk to the ocean, where there’s a dirt path just up from the sandy beach.

It’s so wonderful and interesting to walk there.

This morning I saw runners, walkers, metal detector treasure hunters, backpackers, dogs, dog walkers, fisher people, surfers, babies, pregnant mommies.  It’s inspiring just to be on the beach and see all those healthy happy people.

I realized I was feeling anxious and overwhelmed, mixed with my healthy happy feeling.  And I figure that has something to do with why my miles haven’t transferred and I haven’t been able to buy my ticket yet.

With the tiniest bit of peaking inside, I realized I was scared to buy my ticket because that means I must get everything done to be ready to go – and that was making me feel scared to actually buy the ticket.

I’ve learned that when we have inner conflicts – like wanting and not wanting to buy a ticket – things don’t happen.

I have no clue how my inner resistance plays into the transferring of miles from one account to another, but my experience says it does.  I believe it’s a law of attraction phenomenon.

So I did my emotional tapping while walking on the beach – pausing when I got close to folks passing me or me passing them, but otherwise just tapping and talking along.

Here’s how I tapped this morning – made a little more generic so it can work for you too.  It’s a tapping script you can use when you’re feeling overwhelmed, with too much to do, with too many projects to keep organized and when you’re feeling apprehensive about your future.

For more info on the tapping technique I’m using, see the Growing Up Method.   To watch a quick one-minute video on the tapping points, go here.

Set-Up Karate Chop

Even though I’m feeling overwhelmed with all that I have to do, I really do love and accept myself anyway.

Even though I can’t imagine how I’m going to get everything done – there’s so much to do – I accept myself and all my feelings.

Even though I feel anxious, facing this unknown future, I accept myself just the way I am.

Dumping – Round One

Eyebrow: I’ve got too much going on.

Side of Eye: I’m overwhelmed with everything that’s going on in my life.

Under Eye: How can I possibly get everything done?

Under Nose: There are too many things to keep in mind.

Chin: I’ve got too many different projects going on.

Collarbone: It’s way too much and I feel anxious about it.

Under Arm: I don’t know how it’s all going to work out.

Top of Head: What if it doesn’t work out.

Now, tap another round or more, just listing all the specific things you’re worried about. Name one concern at each point.  My list this morning went something like this.

Eyebrow: I’ve got to sell my truck.

Side of Eye: I have to scan all my important documents and get two boxes of sensitive files shredded.

Under Eye: I’ve got to research and buy a good new suitcase.

Under Nose: I’ve got to pare down my possessions from ten boxes to one suitcase.  And ship, sell or give away everything else.

Chin: I have to decide whether to buy a MacBook Air and buy it if that’s what I decide to do.

Collarbone: I’ve got to buy my flight ticket.

Under Arm: I’ve got to change all my important snail mail and email addresses.

Top of Head: I want to finish the new eBook I’m dreaming of – heck I want to start it!

I actually tapped a couple of rounds of specific Dumping, since I’ve got even more projects, action steps and decisions to make.

When you feel complete with all your Dumping and you are feeling a little lighter, you’re ready to move on to the Dreaming phase.

Doing another Set Up here is optional, but can never hurt.  So here goes.

Karate Chop

Even though I still feel overwhelmed, I do feel a little better.

Even though I still feel like I’ve got way too much to do – and I don’t want to feel pressured and stressed out about it – what if this could somehow be fun and easy?

Even though I don’t know how I’m going to get everything done when I need it done, wouldn’t it be nice if it could happen, and it could be easy?

Eyebrow: What if this could all be a little easier?

Side of Eye: I wonder if there is a way that I could make or let this all be easier

Under Eye: Wouldn’t it be great if I could get everything I need to get done easily?

Under Nose: I’d like to feel relaxed about getting everything done.

Chin: What if I could clearly see everything I need to get done?

Collarbone: Wouldn’t it be great if I could have clarity about all this?

Under Arm: What if I could feel clear and calm and energized about all I have to do?

Top of Head: I look forward to looking back on this and remembering how easily it all worked out so well.

As you’re tapping, notice what comes up for you.  If any specific memories or strong emotions come up, you want to take a little side trip and tap on those things.

When you’re feeling even more positive and clear, you’re ready for the Deciding round. That’s when you make choosing or decision statements.

Sometimes people can’t get to that place on a given issue.  That’s ok.

It’s very powerful to just be planting those positive images into your mind that you use in the Dreaming phase.  That will stimulate your brain to seek out evidence of what you’re “what if”ing about.

In the Dreaming round above, you’re basically giving your brain the instruction to look for evidence of you being clear, calm and energized.  You’re creating room for those changes, in a subtle, non-threatening way.

If you’re ready, it’s time to move on to the Deciding round.

Eyebrow: I’ve decided that my projects are a little easier than I thought.

Side of Eye: I’ve decided I actually can focus on what I need to do – and still feel calm.

Under Eye: I’ve decided that I have lots of reason to feel confident and optimistic about my future.

Under Nose: I choose to feel calm, confident and optimistic about everything I’m working on right now.

Chin: I choose to trust in my resourcefulness.

Collarbone: I choose to relax and know that there is enough time for everything I need to do.

Under Arm: I choose to trust that the help and resources I need will come to me when I need them.

Top of Head: I’ve decided to enjoy the challenge of accomplishing these projects.

That’s how I used emotional tapping while walking on the beach in San Clemente this morning.  I hope this tapping script was of value to you.  Love to hear from you about it.
